August W. Quattrochi

AUGUST W. QUATTROCHI age 98, beloved husband  of the late Diva (nee Gallucci); loving father of Judy  Kaczur (husband Robert, deceased) and Jean (McGoye) Kiehl (husband David); devoted grandfather of Steven Kaczur, Sarah Etheart (husband Jacques), Emily Kaczur, Christine Rabe (husband Andrew), Janine McGoye and great-grandfather of Logan and Grayson Rabe; cherished son of the late Anthony and Augustina (nee Salemi); dearest brother of Helen Eckert and the late Mary Castrovinci, Joseph, and Peter; fond brother-in-law of Mary Anne Duffy; treasured companion of the late Marie Kalchoff; dear uncle and great-uncle of many. WWII U.S. Army-Air Corp Veteran.

August was born on January 11, 1920 in Cleveland and passed away on December 31, 2018 in Middleburg Heights.  August, known as “Augie” and “Gus” was a retired public affairs and communication specialist for GE Lighting at Nela Park.  He enjoyed golfing and photography.  A native Clevelander, he graduated from John Adams High School in 1938 and from Kent State University in 1942.  While attending Kent State, he founded “Jargon”, a publication for journalism students and alumni.  He was awarded the Kent State School of Journalism Distinguished Alumni Award in 1965.  He served as president of the Kent State University National Alumni Association in 1965-1966.  August was a public information officer with the U.S. Ninth Air Force in Europe and was awarded a Bronze Star.  After the war he worked in public relations at the Cleveland Convention and Visitors Bureau and at the former Western Reserve University, before joining GE in 1956.

One of the highlights of his career at GE was personally escorting Ronald Reagan on a tour of several GE Lighting plants in the area.  This was during the time Reagan was host of “GE Theatre”, a nationally televised weekly show.  While at GE, he was known as “Mr. United Way” for coordinating several highly successful employee campaigns.  Following his retirement at GE, he was involved in United Way Campaigns among retirees of Cleveland companies.

He married Diva (Dee) Gallucci in 1947.  They settled in Lyndhurst, where he became active in municipal affairs.  He served on the Lyndhurst City Council and on the city’s Civil Service Commission for a combined total of ten years.  His wife, Dee, died in 1993 and he later moved to Strongsville.  August was outgoing, friendly, funny, witty, hard worker, gentleman, sentimental and loyal to family and friends. August will be dearly missed.

Prayers of Christian Burial Friday, January 11, 2019 at 11 am at THE FUNERAL HOME. Burial following with Military Honors at All Saints Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of August at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF SOUTH EUCLID, 4600 MAYFIELD RD. (just east of Green Rd.) THURSDAY 4-8 PM.
