ARLENE A. BENDER (nee Strass) age 94, beloved wife of the late Frank; loving mother of Jerry (wife Janet), Jim (wife Oksana), and Cindy Gaizutis (husband Peter); devoted grandmother of Jennifer Woznicki (husband Ben), Erik Gaizutis, Christopher, Allison, Jeffrey and great-grandmother of Norah Woznicki; cherished daughter of the late Leo and Alice (nee Molle) Strass; dearest sister of the late Leonard Strass and half-brothers Robert and Kenneth Collins; dear aunt and great-aunt of many.
Most of Arlene’s working career was spent with the National Labor Relations Board in Cleveland as a receptionist and secretary. She loved the people she worked with, but her life’s work was her family. She was a dedicated, loving, caring and compassionate wife and mother. As her life went on, she extended that dedication, love, caring and compassion to her grandchildren and great-grandchild. She also loved her friends, and loved hearing their stories.
She was devoted to her Catholic faith and was a founding member of Saint Paschal Baylon Parish. Outside of her family and friends, she found pleasure in collecting recipes and watching cooking shows on television. She had a positive outlook on life. Her family describes her as a people person, loving, fashionable, and always talkative. Arlene will be dearly missed by all.
Mass of Christian Burial Friday, February 15, 2019 at St. Paschal Baylon Catholic Church at 10AM. Burial following at All Souls Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Arlene at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91) THURSDAY 3-5 & 6-8 PM.
