ANTHONY “TONY” J. PROVENZALE age 95, Wickliffe, died on April 17, 2020. Beloved husband of Josephine Provenzale (nee Galipo); dearest father of Thomas (Janice Reebel) and Stephen (Vicki); devoted grandfather of Veronica Carr (John), Vanessa Provenzale (Alan Shaffer), Vincent Provenzale (Amanda), and Stephanie Provenzale (Tony Furino); treasured great-grandfather of Ethan, Cailyn, Harrison, Rhys, and Lincoln. Son of the late Anthony and Rose Provenzale; dear brother of the following deceased, Theresa Marinucci (Lavere), Joseph (Santa), Sam (Virginia, living), Jennie Santora (Ernest); uncle and grand uncle to many.
Anthony grew up in Cleveland’s Little Italy and helped support his family at a young age by shining shoes and delivering The Shopping News with his trusty German Shepherd Jackie. He proudly served in WWII in England and France in the 9th Air Force and the 123rd Army Air Force Base Unit as a Private 1st class. He never left the house without his WWII Veteran baseball cap. His favorite memory of the service was jitterbugging with the Andrews Sisters at a USO show. Tony was an amazing dancer and met his wife Josie while dancing at the Agora Ballroom. He was an accomplished upholsterer for Shultz Upholstery and Dura-Bilt Upholstery. Tony reupholstered everything he could get his hands on and wouldn’t let you leave his home without a custom-made throw pillow. Whenever he wasn’t working in his upholstery shop, he was watching his beloved Cleveland Indians. He would never let you forget that he was at the 1948 World Series. He was a proud member of the Little Italy Retirees and walked in the Columbus Day parade every year until he could no longer walk. Tony was a natural born storyteller, jokester, and family man.
Final resting place will be at Knollwood Cemetery in Mayfield Heights. Private Prayers of Christian Burial will take place Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at 12 Noon with live streaming of service available (see Funeral Home website guestbook). A celebration of life will be held at a future date. Arrangements entrusted by THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS.
