Anne M. Sedlak

ANNE M. SEDLAK (nee Doyle) age 87, beloved wife of the late James H.; cherished daughter of the late James and Harriet (nee Heagney) Doyle; dearest sister of the late Harriet Gardiner, James Doyle Jr., and John “Jack” Doyle; loving aunt of Harriet “Bish” Gardiner, Kate Goldstein of Arizona, Patsy Wooten of Seattle, and the late Douglas  “Tiger” Gardiner; treasured friend of Cheryl and Michael Casey and Family, Isabel and Jeff Pohto, plus a host of many friends who will miss her greatly.

Anne was born in Cleveland on September 1, 1932. She was a resident of Cleveland for the past seven years, previously of Euclid, and was a member of St. Philomena and St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish. Anne graduated from Shaker Heights High School in 1950 and received her bachelor’s degree from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College in Indiana. Anne’s father, James (Jimmy) Doyle, is a member of the Press Club of Cleveland Journalism Hall of Fame and was a columnist and Indians beat reporter for the Plain Dealer for over 50 years.  She was a devoted teacher at St. Dominic Catholic School in Shaker Heights, and many of her students stayed in touch with her. An avid reader, Anne was very artistic, loved classic movies and talking politics with friends. She enjoyed drawing and crafts, along with Big Band music. Anne was a kind and gentle soul. She was generous with her many friends, and she was proud of her Irish heritage. She will be missed by so many.

Anne passed away on April 3, 2020. A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at 11 AM at the Church of St. Dominic, 19000 Van Aken Blvd (at Norwood Rd), Shaker Hts, Ohio 44122. Meet in front of the Church. Masks are required. Contributions in memory of Anne may be made to Church of St. Dominic.
