Ann Zakelj

ANN M. ZAKELJ (nee Anzic) age 71, beloved wife for 50 years of John; loving mother of Becky and Christian; cherished daughter of Joze (deceased) and Marija (nee Koritnik) Anzic; dearest sister of Emily Slemc (husband Vid, deceased) and the late Godfrey “Miro” Anzic; dear sister in law, aunt, great-aunt and friend of many.

Ann was born in Austria on March 10, 1947 and passed away peacefully on February 13, 2019. She moved to the US in 1950, grew up in Cleveland, moved to Euclid where she and her husband John raised their two children Becky and Christian and later moved to Willoughby Hills. She graduated from St Augustine Academy in 1965 and Ursuline College in 1969 with a major in English. She went on to work as a computer programmer for the Department of Defense for the US Navy. Ann has been a devoted parishioner of St. Vitus Church where she sang in their choir. She was a proud member of the Korotan Choral Society, The Altar Society and The Edward De Vere Society. Ann absolutely loved traveling worldwide and has visited over 50 countries. She was an avid reader and love crafts and sewing. Ann had a passion for translating Slovenian to English and researching the history of ancient coins. She was a dynamic woman who was artistically gifted, outgoing and extremely social with a boundless energy that everyone felt.  Ann will be remembered most as a very generous and giving woman who had the best wit and sense of humor. She will be forever missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to meet for the Mass of Christian Burial Monday, February 18, 2019 at 10 AM at St. Vitus Church 6019 Lausche Ave, Cleveland, OH 44103. Cremation following by DeJohn Crematory. Burial at All Souls Cemetery at a later date. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Ann at THE ZEVNIK-COSIC FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91) SUNDAY 2-7 PM.
