Alyne Shaffer, 82, of Rocky River, passed away on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at Lakewood Hospital.
She was born on March 21, 1930 in Marion, Indiana. She was a long-time resident of the Vermilion “?? Amherst area. She had worked at the Erie Ordinance Depot in Port Clinton during the Korean War, and then as an aide at various nursing homes. She was an avid knitter, enjoyed crocheting and quilting, and yearly donated booties and caps for new-born infants at Lorain Community and St. Joseph Hospitals. She traveled extensively across the United States, and enjoyed cooking and gardening. Most of all, she was devoted to her husband, children and grandchildren. Coming from a family of 14, she was determined to give the best to her children through her faith in them, and in the Good Lord up above.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Jesse W., her children Larry W. (partner Joe Smith), Gary L. (wife Cynthia), Tim (wife Vicki) and Cheryl Szczepanski, 6 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, 1 brother and 4 sisters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Russell Dolly (nee Vice) Gardner and 8 siblings.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Alyne are suggested to the Mountain View Christmas Fund. Please make checks payable to Kipton Community Church, 511 Church St., Kipton, OH. 44049, with Mountain View Christmas Fund on the memo line.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Kipton Community Church at 1:00 PM. Rev. Lee Stull and Rev. Charles Livermore will officiate.
The family will receive friends to pay tribute and celebrate the life of Alyne in the church hall immediately following the services on Saturday.
