Alfonso F. D’Emilia

ALFONSO F. D’EMILIA, age 90, beloved husband for 63 years of Mary Jane (nee Volzer); loving father of Mary Beer (deceased) (husband Gregory), Florence D’Emilia (husband Robert Quartell), Patricia D’Emilia, Catherine Miller (husband Joseph), Ruth D’Emilia (husband Robert Soreo), Joni Jenovic (husband Michael), and Jackie Fox (husband Thomas); devoted grandfather of Jordan Beer, Grace Evans (husband Tyler), Hannah and Irene Beer, Simone and Gianni Quartell, Alessandra, Matthew and Gus Miller, Helena, Juliana and Luisa Soreo, Stanley Jenovic, Alex and Sarah Fox; dear cousin, uncle and godfather.

Alfonso was born on January 23, 1928 in Colle Sannita, Italy and passed away on October 22, 2018. He was a resident of Cleveland Heights since 1963 and came to the United States of America in 1948 from Italy. Alfonso was a member and usher at Gesu and Communion of Saints Parishes for 40 years. He is a member of the Third Order of St. Francis and the Cleveland Cultural Gardens. Alfonso graduated from Liceo Classico de LaSalle of Benevento, Italy. He retired after more than 40 years of working in advertising for the Plain Dealer.  Alfonso was a member of the Il Cenacolo Italiano. He was an avid reader with an amazing library and would review books for the Plain Dealer. Alfonso will be remembered most as an outgoing, cordial and very intellectual man who was very strong in his faith. He was very dignified and treated everyone with dignity, respect and warmth. Alfonso loved to share his knowledge with everyone and was a great story teller. He will be dearly missed.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Alfonso to Catholic Charities, Attn: Cathy Brown, 1404 East Ninth St., Cleveland, OH 44114. Mass of Christian Burial Friday, October 26, 2018 at St. Ann Catholic Church of Communion of Saints Parish at 10 AM. Burial following at Lake View Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Alfonso at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF SOUTH EUCLID, 4600 MAYFIELD RD. (just east of Green Rd.) THURSDAY 4-8 PM.
